How does Fringe work?
Artists/Performers will be selected on a non-juried first-come, first-served basis according to the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals (CAFF) :
The audience must have the option to pay a ticket price, 100% of which goes directly to the artists
Fringe North festival producers have no control over the artistic content of each performance. The artistic freedom of participants is unrestrained.
Fringe North will provide an easily accessible opportunity for all audiences and all artists to participate in Fringe Festivals
If you are accepted into Fringe North you will be included in all Fringe publicity: our program, on our website, and overall event publicity. A detailed questionnaire will be sent to you in early 2017. Plan to have fun. Companies will be expected to fill out a promotional questionnaire for use by the Fringe marketing team. Participating companies agree to return their promotional questionnaires in a timely fashion or risk being inaccurately represented in Festival promotional materials.
Participation Fees?
Fringes charge companies registration or participation fees to cover the costs of venue rentals, pay for technicians, and to help sustain the festival for performers. For 2018, Fringe North waives all participation fees associated with the Emerging Artist venues. Performers on these stages are encouraged to pay what they can afford when their run is over.
Fringe North participation fees, excluding BYOV’s, SITE-SPECIFIC, and EMERGING ARTIST stages, are based upon overall seating capacity. Seating capacity is calculated by the total number of seats available for the entire run of the show.
50 seats or less = $150
50-100 seats = $300
100-150 seats = $450
150-200 seats = $600
Example: if a venue has a seating capacity of 60 seats and the company intends to perform their show 6 times, the total seating capacity is 360 seats and the Participation Fee is $375.
If you are accepted into the Fringe Festival you will be contacted to confirm your spot and your Participation Fee will be due immediately.
Note to both new and struggling artists and performers: if the emerging artist stage is not suitable for your production and participation fees to present a barrier to your company staging productions at Fringe North in 2018, please talk to us. We will try to help you, within the rules of fairness and equity to other performers, as established by CAFF.
The registration process is now open and will be open until late spring, 2018.
