Schedule and Show Length
A minimum of Six (6) performances will be scheduled for each company.
You must choose a running time for your show. You should keep in mind that all regular Fringe shows have running times between 30 and 90 minutes. Once submitted, you may not add to your running time.
The Participation Fee for each company will be calculated based on the total seating capacity of the show through the entire run. For BYOV’s and SITE-SPECIFIC performances it is best to commit to the full run of the Fringe from August 10-20, 2017. Fringe North does not provide technical support to BYOV or SITE-SPECIFIC venues.
Applications and Primary Contact
Primary and alternate contacts may be involved in only ONE production. Fringe North correspondence will only be sent to the Primary contact. Only the primary contact is authorized to submit or make changes to company information. As Primary contact it is your responsibility to:
Share information with the rest of the company
Stay up to date on Festival information
Ensure timely submissions of all requested materials
Acquire all applicable permits and the payment of all applicable taxes and fees relating to your production at Fringe North
Companies accepted into the Festival cannot sell or transfer their spot to another company. If a company has been found to have done this, both companies will be removed from the festival and the full application fee will be forfeit.
Artist and performer registrations cost less for shorter shows and smaller venues. Fringe North venues range between 30 seats to 350 seats. Tell us more about your production and we will match you to the most suitable venue. It is better to pay a smaller participation fee, and sell out a 100 seat venue than to perform in front of 100 in a 350 seat theatre.
Fringe Venues: Fringe North has access to amazing venues to display your talents, from 30 seat art houses to 250 + theatres (The Grand, The Tech) with excellent acoustics. Fringe Central and the Beer Tent Stage will be located at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion. In addition, Fringe North will feature children’s stages (60 seats) and emerging artist stages (variable seating).
Children’s performances will alternate between two historical venues. Both venues feature beautiful 60-seat stages located across the street from each other, the Canadian Bushplane Museum and the Erminitiger Clergue Historical Site. All venues are accessible to one another by walking, biking, transit, and car.
Emerging artist stage:
There are no fees other than the $25 registration fee associated with performing at Emerging Artist venue. Performers will be asked to bring their own volunteers and equipment when they can and are encouraged to “pay what they can” after the event.

Street Performers/Buskers:
Sault Ste. Marie offers many amazing performer spaces downtown and along the waterfront. Sault residents are known to be generous when the hat is passed. Let Fringe North find the perfect spot for you to showcase your talents. The Roberta Bondar Pavilion will serve as a rainy-day venue for street performers.

Site Specific Theatre
Fringe North considers a show SITE-SPECIFIC where: The show is created to take place in a particular, non-traditional performance venue
The show could not take place in a traditional theatre space
The show uses the properties, qualities, and/or history of the space to inform the content
The show helps to illuminate local history or discover or highlight our intimate relationship to our environment, to physical space, to one another.
Site-Specific Theatre applications must go through a two – step process:
Interested applicants must provide a short two page submission outlining their project/performance art. Fringe North will determine the eligibility of the proposed production within the site-specific category. After eligibility is confirmed by Fringe North, the applicant will be instructed on how to submit their participation fee to the festival. All SITE-SPECIFIC applicants are encouraged to contact Fringe North to discuss their proposal in advance of submitting: ad@fringenorth.ca
